What to do when everything is going wrong

We’ve all had times when it felt like everything was going wrong. And sometimes it really is. It’s hard to have a positive mindset when it feels that way.

Unfortunately, that negative attitude can drag you down. And it only makes it worse when you stop taking care of yourself. When you stop eating healthy and exercising and you turn to things like alcohol or junk food you might get a temporary boost but you’ll only end up dragging yourself farther down.

Here are some things you can do when it feels like everything is going wrong.

  • Remember that everything is temporary. If things in your life are bad right now, remember that every moment is a new beginning.

  • Focus on the present. Most people spend too much time worrying about past mistakes or their future. Instead, spend some time each day living in the present. Notice the magic in the moment.

  • We all grow by failing. If you’ve had a setback in your weight loss efforts or didn’t get a job you really wanted it can be easy to feel like a failure. But most often success doesn’t happen on the first try. It can take many failed attempts before you succeed. The important thing is that you learn from each failure.

  • Don’t try to control what you can’t. Sometimes things happen and there is nothing you can do about it. But it’s human nature to want to control things. Your lack of control will turn to worry and an attempt to blame someone. This won’t make things better.

  • Get outside, in nature if possible. Being outside in nature can lift your spirits.

  • Reach out for support. If you are feeling really down about everything in your life, reach out to a friend, family member or for professional support.
