How did Adele lose so much weight?

Adele’s weight loss came as a surprise to fans when she started posting new pics on Instagram and then appeared on Saturday Night Live. She recently shared how she lost over 100 lbs in interviews with Oprah and British Vogue.

As a celebrity, Adele’s body size has always been a topic of discussion and the massive weight loss was no different. In fact she was actually criticized for her weight loss by women who identified with her when she was overweight.

She was also criticized for not sharing her weight loss journey. She says she did it for herself so didn’t see the point in sharing it.

"People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey’. They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram, and most people in my position would get a big deal with a diet brand."

Adele needed to deal with Anxiety

After her divorce Adele struggled with anxiety. "I had the most terrifying anxiety attacks after I left my marriage," she said.

She says that the exercise "really contributed to me getting my mind right".

In an interview with Vogue magazine, she revealed that weight loss was not her original goal. She started working out so she could be in shape for her performances. “I was trying to get some stamina for my tour." Then she discovered how much exercise helped her deal with anxiety.

“It was because of my anxiety. Working out, I would just feel better. It was never about losing weight, it was always about becoming strong and giving myself as much time every day without my phone. I got quite addicted to it. I work out two or three times a day.” she said.

How Did Exercise Help Adele Lose weight?

Adele found that meeting with her trainer gave her a plan for every day. Before that she "had no idea what each day was going to bring". It brought her the discipline she needed.

She was working out 3 times per day, including weight training, cardio, hiking and boxing. “So I do my weights in the morning, then I normally hike or I box in the afternoon, and then I go and do my cardio at night," she said about her fitness plan.

She worked with a trainer for many of her workouts. She is proud of her achievements, especially her 170 lb deadlift.

She admits that this intense exercise routine is not for everyone, and that most people don't have the time to exercise 3 times a day.

And while I believe exercise is important for improving health, for most people it doesn't help much with weight loss. You can see from the amount of exercise that Adele had to do to lose about 1 pound per week that this is not realistic.

Adele's weight loss diet is not what you've heard

Despite some reports otherwise, Adele says she didn’t follow any specific diet to lose weight. Adele denies that she went on a fad diet. "No intermittent fasting. Nothing. If anything I eat more than I used to because I work out so hard," she said in an interview with British Vogue.

She also reports that People are claiming she trained with them, or went on their diet. But she says "I haven’t done any diet."

Fueling your body for exercise and your life is important. If you're adding exercise to your life you'll want to make sure that you are getting the right balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to give you the energy to exercise, but also allow your body to make the most of exercise. You need to get enough protein to promote muscle growth and increased metabolism.

My programs contain a healthy balance of the most important nutrients to keep you energized and healthy.

What did Adele look like before her weight loss?

Adele is British singer/songwriter. She has won 15 Grammys and one Oscar for the soundtrack for the James Bond film Skyfall. She is famous for songs like Hello and Hometown glory. She was born in 1988 and now lives in Los Angeles.

Adele lost 100 lbs over a 2 year period. She is pictured here in 2017. In 2019 she started to reveal her new look.

Many fans identified with her as a plus sized woman and were critical of her weight loss. But she revealed in an interview with Oprah "It's not my job to validate how people feel about their bodies."

She says "You don't need to be overweight to be body positive."

A Focus on Hormones is Necessary

The amount of exercise that Adele was doing is probably not sustainable and could have detrimental effects on her hormone balance which could cause her issues. Exercise is far less effective than diet changes in weight loss and weight maintenance.

Holistic weight loss ebook

Instead of focusing solely on exercise, I would help Adele to develop healthy eating habits. She should be eating a diet that benefits her hormones with a focus on the right protein, carbohydrates and fats.

Exercise has an important role when it comes to reducing anxiety, but diet should also be addressed when looking at ways to reduce anxiety. Many foods we eat can contribute to levels of anxiety.

There are rumors, that Adele denies, that she used a fad diet to lose the weight. I don’t recommend following severely restrictive diets that leave you feeling fatigued and always hungry. Instead my eating plans leave you feeling energized.
